Hi Grandma! 👋🏼

This book caught my eye for obvious reasons and focuses on grandmas in different places around the world! It includes some cultural traditions through greetings, clothing, and granny wisdoms! There are some generalizations about grandmas, but this is an interesting place to start conversations about traditions in different cultures and families.

Grannies included from: Japan, New Zealand, Hawaii, Ethiopia, France, Uganda, India, Haiti, Russia, Mexico, South Wales, The Philippines, Aruba, the Netherlands, China, & Afghanistan.

Peace out to moving from place to place, we’re all moved into our new home!

I get super attached to all the places I’ve lived because each spot has something special about it, but I’m so grateful to finally settle and have a place for ourselves. 💚

This place is already special. Not only is it two blocks from my childhood home where my parents live, but we also got to design a lot of the interior options! ➡️ Swipe to see us back in April touring the model homes, not realizing we’d actually end up here & some of the options we selected!

If you’re in the process or even thinking about moving, I’m rooting for you. Things don’t always move at the pace you want it to, but you’ll get there!! 💚

Two of my FAVORITE units from way back (3 years ag

Two of my FAVORITE units from way back (3 years ago) when I taught 5th grade.

Both were part of the @eleducation curriculum.

🔸The Athlete Leaders of Social Change unit was as amazing as it sounds and taught students about unjust barriers athletes had to break and how athletes continue to use their voice for change. We read a lot about Jackie Robinson as a class while students read stories and memoirs about athletes in a book club style. Individually, students researched one athlete leader of social change and spoke as them during a “meet and greet” where they showcased some artifacts about their role in different social movements.

🔸The Stories of Human Rights unit used Esperanza Rising and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to start conversations of equity and awareness. This was one of my favorite units because it pushed me out of my comfort zone in terms of the performance task & students impressed me beyond words. Not only did they work in teams to write monologues about one event from the story (told from different characters’ pov), they memorized and PERFORMED them on stage!! I just re-watched the videos and am still in wow. Students even worked on some awesome quotes with their art teacher!!
